Through compelling musical fusion we aim to develop a sonic landscape that will ultimately become the innate and imaginative voice of Galway Traditional Orchestra.
Our members come from right across county Galway and gather weekly in Galway city for rehearsals. Galway Traditional Orchestra comprises members from the eastern most point of the county near Ballygar (on the Roscommon border) right across to the most western point of the county in Inis Mór on the Aran Islands. Performers also represent a variety of locations in Galway city and an array of towns across the county such as Athenry, Portumna, Loughrea, Tuam, Claregalway, Ballinasloe, Oranmore, Oughterard & Headford.
Galway Traditional Orchestra is also made up of performers who are not originally from Galway but are residing in Galway long-term or are based in the city or county over a prolonged period while studying or working. We are delighted to welcome such visitors.
"I came to Galway from the US to live abroad for a year, and the Galway Traditional Orchestra was the best part of my time in Ireland. The people were great, the music was super fun, and it was awesome to be a part of such a unique ensemble!"

Making Old Traditions New
The whole is greater than the sum of its parts
